Grillo sizzles to PGA lead with birdie blitz

Sweden's Henrik Stenson, pictured on July 17, 2016, won his first major title at the British Open

Argentina rookie Emiliano Grillo rolled off three birdies in four holes Friday to seize the lead in the second round of the PGA Championship at seven-under par. Grillo, who opened with 66 on Thursday, was three-under through six and the latest to top the leaderboard on a wild afternoon at rain-softened Baltusrol. The 23-year-old South American, whose lone US PGA victory came in last year's Frys.com Open, is only in his fifth major and coming off a share of 12th at the British Open two weeks ago at Royal Troon. Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who won his first major title at the British Open, was the clubhouse leader at six-under 134 after firing his second consecutive 67 with two-time major champion Martin Kaymer of Germany and American Patrick Reed on 135. American Jimmy Walker, the 18-hole leader after a 65 on Thursday, birdied the fifth hole to stand on six-under. England's Ross Fisher parred the 10th hole, his first of the day going off in the penultimate group of back-nine starters. Morning showers drenched the 7,428-yard layout so badly that play was halted for 41 minutes so the course could be rendered playable after water puddled on greens and fairways.
