Rewards programmes for the Singapore traveller

Free flights, better seats, more places to go to – there’s so much to love about these airlines’ packages. So even though planning for a vacation means shelling out money, it’s great to know that there are still ways to stretch your dollar and earn cool perks and benefits. Start now by choosing the airline and rewards programme that suits your needs.

AirAsia
The low-cost airline recently launched BIG, their first independent loyalty programme. It allows travellers to accumulate loyalty points, which they can then redeem for free flights and other AirAsia add-ons such as baggage and Hot Seats.

As they’ve partnered with DBS bank and StarHub, customers aged two and above can now earn points for flights and convert their rewards points to BIG Points. While the bank offers three per cent rebates – as well as the option of converting your DBS rewards points into BIG points – spending less than $50 on the telecom firm also means you get to redeem a flight to nearby destinations like Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket and more.

Tigerair
This budget airline offers passengers a Stripes membership programme, where you are one of the first to get exclusive access to their promotional airfares. For an annual fee of about $30, you also get alerts to members-only fares and special partner promotions with hotels, rental cars and more.

Jetstar
When flying out of Singapore on eligible Jetstar flights, Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn flyer points and status credits on selected bundle fares. Just provide your Qantas Frequent Flyer number to get points and status credits within six weeks of travel. You can also use your points on Jetstar to book award flights at Qantas for a Classic or Jetstar Any Seat Sward. What’s more, you can redeem points for a family member.

SIA and SilkAir
These two airlines have the KrisFlyer programme, where customers earn up to 325 per cent of the actual miles flown. This includes flying on any of their 120 airline partners, including those under the world’s largest airline network, Star Alliance. You can opt to redeem your miles for flights to more than 1,000 destinations in over 170 countries, or for upgrades with their airline partners.

Cathay Pacific

The Asia Miles travel rewards programme earns you Asia Miles towards flight awards, upgrades, companion tickets and other lifestyle benefits. Points can be earned by flying with over 20 Asia Miles partner airlines, such as British Airways, Dragonair, Japan Airlines, Gulf Air and Royal Brunei Airlines. Join it for free.

The programme also sets itself apart with a rewards system to a variety of international hotels, dining, transportation, and leisure activities right down to an Asia Miles iShop. The shop collaborates with online merchants like J Shoppers in China, MUJI in Japan, Skype in the UK, StrawberryNET in Australia, and Foot Locker in the US, among others.

Cathay Pacific is also a oneworld member airline, so you can redeem miles and/or points on Cathay or any of their partner airlines.

Malaysia Airlines

As a oneworld member airline, Malaysia Airlines’ frequent flyer programme, Enrich, lets travellers earn miles for their flights as well as with their partner airlines. Rewards include redemptions for award flights, as well as Enrich vouchers for excess baggage payment and purchasing in-flight items.
