Rooney Mara to be honored with Vanguard Award

The co-star of "Carol" will receive the Santa Barbara Festival Vanguard Award from fellow cast member Cate Blanchett, it was announced on December 8.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival takes place this year from February 3-13, during which the actress Rooney Mara ("The Social Network", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "Carol") will be honored with the Vanguard Award. The award recognizes actors who've taken creative risks in film.

Previous recipients of the award include Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, Jean Dujardin, Nicole Kidman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ryan Gosling.

Rooney's performance in "Carol" alongside Cate Blanchett won her a Best Actress Award at Cannes in 2015.
