Rumer Willis Gave an Emotional Update on Bruce Willis’s Dementia

"My dad is so beloved."

Rumer Willis shared an update on her father, Bruce Willis, and his ongoing struggles with dementia. Speaking to Extra at the Jhpiego Laughter Is the Best Medicine Gala last night, she opened up about making sure that Bruce and her daughter, Louetta, spend time together and how the entire family is grateful for the public's support as they navigate the actor's frontotemporal dementia.

She told the outlet that he is doing "wonderful," adding, "He's doing so good. I got to go over and see him today, which was so lovely and so nice to see him with my daughter and just go over and give love.”

"As a family, especially my sisters and I, we're just so grateful for the love that comes at him," she finished. "I think it is such a reflection of who he is.”

Rumer is spending plenty of time with Louetta, too. She told Extra that her daughter has said her first words and, of course, it's so sweet that it may just melt your heart.

“She just started doing this thing today actually that literally melts me into a puddle," Rumer said. "She’ll look up at me and go, ‘Mama,’ and then just come and give me a hug—actually intentionally hug me, or give me a smooch. I’m just a puddle. I will do anything for this kid. She's got me so whipped.”

Bruce announced that he would be stepping away from his career in March 2022. Initially, he had said that he'd been diagnosed with aphasia, but the family later shared that it was frontotemporal dementia, which causes the brain's frontal and temporal lobes to die. 

“I think, for me, through this experience, what’s been so incredible is my dad is so beloved, and that’s been so evident in the transparency with which we’ve been sharing,” Rumer shared earlier this week at the premiere of My Divorce Party. “And I think if there’s any way sharing our experience brings hope—whatever comes forward as a family—that can have an effect and bring any sort of hope, comfort to someone else experiencing that, then to me, that’s everything.”
