Run-DMC honored with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

Rap group Run-DMC has been named the recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The influential trio, comprising Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Joseph "Reverend Run" Simmons and the late Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell, who died in 2002, are the first rappers to win the honor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rev Run broke the news to fans over Twitter, saying: ""I just got a call from the Grammys!! They shocked me!! We're the first rappers to get this award!! Shocked! Grateful!. God is good!!! I'm so honored to be a #GRAMMYs Lifetime Achievement Award recipient this year. Thank you to the Recording Academy!"

Run-DMC was the first hip-hop group to achieve a gold album, with their 1984 record "Run-DMC".
