Sabah approves motion to bar Nurul Izzah, Tian Chua from entering state

The Sabah legislative assembly has passed a special motion today to bar PKR vice-presidents Nurul Izzah Anwar and Chua Tian Chang from the entering the state, The Star Online reported today. The report said this was over Nurul Izzah's meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram in Manila earlier this month. Chua (pic, right), also known as Tian Chua, was alleged to have masterminded the meet. The special motion, fully backed by Sabah Barisan Nasional assemblymen, was tabled by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan and seen as an affront to the sovereignty of Sabah. The report said Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnson Tee allowed the special motion as the issue was of public interest. Tan, in his motion, also demanded an investigation to be carried out and appropriate legal action to be taken against the duo. Regarding the motion, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman said that he would take note of the views presented by the members of the assembly before he decides on the appropriate action. The report said the power to bar anyone from the state was in the hands of the chief minister who would have to make decision on the duo. In Parliament today, The Malaysian Insider reported that Nurul Izzah would only issue a statement on the move by the Sabah state assembly after her appointment with the police in Bukit Aman tomorrow. “I will issue a statement there with my lawyer tomorrow. “It is very important to understand I have made a clear cut apology especially to those who were hurt by the incident and the issue does not justify linking me with the attacks that took place in Lahad Datu in 2013,” she said. Jacel is the daughter of self-proclaimed Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, who was behind the Lahad Datu incursion in eastern Sabah in 2013, in which a number of Malaysian armed forces personnel were killed. Nurul Izzah also said that she was forced to sue the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob due to the gravity of their allegations linking her to treason. She said their statements had allegedly portrayed her as traitor to the country and that she had committed a serious crime. Meanwhile, Kota Belud MP Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said today that the decision taken at the state assembly was expected, to reflect on the anger of the people. He also criticised Nurul for wanting to lead the country, but of being unable to determine know who the enemy was. “Nurul Izzah wants to be the prime minister of the country, but if she does not know who the enemy is, how to be a leader? “This is why the people of Sabah are angry,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby. – November 26, 2015.
