Sam-A Gaiyanghadao To Defend Muay Thai World Title Against Josh Tonna At ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES

Immediately after the explosive A NEW BREED event series entered the history books last Friday, ONE Championship announced the headline attraction for its next show, ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES.

In the main event scheduled for 9 October, two-sport ONE World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao will defend his ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title against the division’s #1-ranked contender, Josh “Timebomb” Tonna.

Following his reign as the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, Sam-A stormed into strawweight last October with a second-round knockout of Darren Rolland at ONE: CENTURY PART I.

Then in December, he beat “Golden Boy” Huang Junguang via decision to win the ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title at ONE: MARK OF GREATNESS.

Finally, the Thai scorched Rocky Ogden over five rounds to win the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title at ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE, becoming a two-sport ONE World Champion right before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of several events.

Tonna, meanwhile, overcame a disappointing debut against Petchdam “The Baby Shark” Petchyindee Academy by defeating Joseph Lasiri via unanimous decision at ONE: PURSUIT OF GREATNESS in October 2018.

Then in 2019, “Timebomb” split a win and a loss to Hiroki Akimoto and Yoshihisa Morimoto, respectively.

But the Australian solidified his #1 spot in the division by stopping legendary Muay Thai specialist Andy “Punisher” Howson in the second round by knee at ONE: WARRIOR’S CODE this past February.

There’s no doubt Tonna will be facing his toughest challenge yet when he steps into the ONE ring with Sam-A – a legend in his own right.

Will the Australian pull off the upset against the seasoned Thai? Or will Sam-A continue to rule as the ONE Super Series two-sport king?
