Saturday's (March 28) instalment featured the finale of the 'Men in Brown' series, in which The Great British Bake Off's Paul Hollywood was revealed to be the leader of an invading alien force.
During the sketch, the line "infect the humans" was used multiple times as celebrities including Amanda Holden became possessed by the aliens and announced their plans to "infect the human scum".
Considering the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, some viewers dubbed the sketch "insensitive" as it aired, and now broadcast regulator Ofcom has confirmed that it has received 22 complaints specifically related to the joke.
"We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate," a statement issued to Metro reads.
Because of the pandemic, Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway has also had its end of series trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida cancelled.
The duo continued to present the series without a studio audience at first, before the latest episode saw them join the broadcast live from their homes and present a 'best of' highlight reel in lieu of a standard show.
Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway continues on Saturday, April 4 on ITV.
