SINGAPORE — SBS Transit has advised the public on Tuesday (6 August) to be alert to a scam text message using the company’s name.

The public transport operator posted on its Facebook page a screenshot of a text message which told the mobile phone user to collect winnings after coming in third in SBS Transit’s “August list” by clicking on a hyperlink.

SBS Transit said in its post, “We’ve been alerted that passengers have received a SMS/WhatsApp (message) claiming that they have won a prize from SBS Transit and to collect their winnings via a link.

“Please note that the SMS/WhatsApp (message) is not genuine and does not originate from SBS Transit. Please do not click on the link.”

According to reports, an SBS Transit spokesperson said that this is the first time its name has been used to scam the public, and advised those who received the text message to delete it.

Scams using well-known names, such as that of Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, have surfaced in recent months.
