The new Scream movie has lured another familiar face back to Woodsboro.

The latest original cast member to sign up for the relaunch of the late horror icon Wes Craven's movie franchise is Neve Campbell, who played the Ghostface killer's perennial target Sidney Prescott.

Campbell announced the exciting news by sharing a photo of the infamous Ghostface mask on Instagram, along with the caption: "Hello again, Sidney. I'm back."

The Canadian actress will be reuniting with Scream co-stars Courteney Cox and David Arquette, both of whom are signed up to reprise their roles as tabloid reporter Gale Weathers and Deputy Dewey Riley respectively.

Campbell dropped hints that she was open to joining the project this past spring when Ready or Not's Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett came on board as directors.

"I definitely had a period where I was thinking it would just be too odd to do a movie without Wes, and I wasn't certain that I would want to do that," she told THR.

"But, I think enough time has passed. I got this really, really respectful letter from the directors [Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett] of the new one.

"They came to me with Scream 5, and these directors are incredibly talented."

Original cast member David Arquette is probably hoping the fifth Scream movie skews closer to the "tone" of the first two movies, since he recently admitted Scream 3 is his least favourite in the franchise.

"We had to throw the script out at the beginning," he told the New York Daily News.

"They were rewriting the whole time. We'd get pages like on the day of shooting. It was just kind of all over the place. It's interesting and it's funny but it's a different tone from the rest."

Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega and Jack Quaid are among the newcomers joining the cast of the new Scream movie, which has confirmed its release date for January 14, 2022.
