The Honey Boy star and Pearl actress have been on-and-off since first meeting while filming Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac: Vol. II in 2012. Following a turbulent 2015 — in which a video of the pair having a heated argument was made public — the couple wed in Las Vegas in 2016.

Their union — which was never legalized — lasted two years; a rep for LaBeouf announced that the actors were divorcing in 2018.

Two years later, the pair appeared to have reunited when they were spotted out together with their wedding rings on. In 2022, LaBeouf and Goth welcomed a child together, a daughter named Isabel.

2012: Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth first meet while filming Nymphomaniac: Vol. II

The Transformers star first met his future wife on the set of Lars von Trier's 2013 drama Nymphomaniac: Vol. II.

It was the second installment of the erotic thriller, in which LaBeouf starred as Jerôme and Goth played P, marking her big screen debut.

November 2013: Mia Goth stars in a Shia LaBeouf-directed music video

With some help from von Trier, LaBeouf directed Future Unlimited's music video for their single "Haunted Love." Goth starred in the disturbing video, which sees her crying and giving birth in a bathtub.

"When I think domestic, I feel love," LaBeouf told The Hollywood Reporter about his inspiration for the video. "When I think violence, I feel haunted. 'Haunted Love' for me was about lovers pushing each other to the edge. And how jealousy can make a person snap."

October 19, 2014: Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth make their red carpet debut

LaBeouf and Goth got glammed up for their first red carpet appearance as a couple.

For the occasion, the pair dressed to the nines, with the actor in a black tuxedo and Goth in a black lace dress at the closing night gala screening of LaBeouf's film Fury in London.

March 2015: Mia Goth sparks engagement rumors with a new ring

The A Cure for Wellness actress first sparked rumors that she and LaBeouf were engaged when she showed off a sparkly new rock on her ring finger at Paris Fashion Week.

A source told PEOPLE at the time, “They seem very happy and spend a lot of time together. Shia is a big goof and Mia is the same way. They are usually just laughing and seem to have a great time.”

July 24, 2015: Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth get into a heated altercation

The pair made headlines after getting into a public argument in Germany in July 2015. A video, originally shared by Entertainment Tonight, captured them yelling at each other outside of a taxi near a hotel.

LaBeouf is heard telling a group of German men: "I don't want to touch a woman, I don't want to hit a woman, but I'm being pushed."

After accepting a ride from the men to the airport, he can also be heard saying, "If I'd have stayed there, I would have killed her."

March 2016: Mia Goth sparks engagement rumors once again

One year after first being spotted with a ring on her engagement finger, Goth stepped out once again wearing the sparkler.

She and LaBeouf shared a lunch date and later, both declined to comment on the engagement rumors.

October 10, 2016: Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth have a marriage ceremony in Las Vegas

LaBeouf and Goth said "I do" in what appeared to be a marriage ceremony presided over by an Elvis Presley impersonator in a Las Vegas chapel. The ceremony was live streamed, prompting many to wonder whether it was the actor's latest performance art piece.

In photos and video, LaBeouf wore a dark suit and white sneakers while Goth danced in a white lace wedding dress — both the actors' mothers were also in attendance.

Later, local officials confirmed that the nuptials were not legally binding. A couple of days after the news broke, Clark County of Nevada posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Our records show no marriage license for Shia LaBeouf & Mia Goth. A commitment ceremony was performed #Vegas." A photo from the ceremony was included in the post.

October 18, 2016: Shia LaBeouf says he's "proud" of his wedding

Soon after the video of their wedding was released, LaBeouf said that he was indeed a married man during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"The plan was for it to be a private deal," he revealed. "Part of the package, the King Tut package, you get a live stream for free." He noted that they declined the offer, but things didn't go as planned.

"We get home and it's like, 'Woah hey, listen something changed,' " he recalled. "So I called them up and they said, 'Somebody pressed the wrong button that sends the video to TMZ.' "

In the end, the newlyweds chose to look on the bright side, LaBeouf said. "We're proud of it. It was love," he added.

September 25, 2018: Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth file for divorce

LaBeouf's rep confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple were calling it quits in 2018, referring to the split as "amicable."

"Shia and Mia have filed for divorce. The separation is amicable and all details pertaining to the divorce proceedings will remain private," the rep said.

News of their breakup came on the heels of the actor being spotted leaving the London home of his Honey Boy costar, singer FKA twigs.

November 6, 2018: Shia LaBeouf and FKA Twigs are spotted kissing

Two months after they were first seen together, the Even Stevens alum and the "Good to Love" singer were seen kissing in Los Angeles.

The couple dated for over a year and FKA Twigs later alleged that LaBeouf had sexually and physically assaulted her during their relationship. She later filed a lawsuit against him, accusing the actor of "relentless abuse."

LaBeouf responded to the allegations in an email to The New York Times. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years," he wrote. "I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt."

March 28, 2020: Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth spark reconciliation rumors

Two years after their split, the American Honey actor and X star appeared to have reunited.

LaBeouf shared the first details about his newborn in a letter to his former Don't Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde, published by Variety. In the letter, the actor — who disputed that he was fired from the film — confirmed that he and Goth welcomed a daughter and were rebuilding their relationship.

"I have a little girl, Isabel; she is five months old and just beginning to develop the last half of her laugh; it's AMAZING," he wrote. "Mia, my wife & I have found each other again & are journeying toward a healthy family with love and mutual respect."

August 31, 2022: Shia LaBeouf says Mia Goth "saved him"

Referring to his wife as "a real one," LaBeouf revealed on Jon Bernthal's REAL ONES podcast that Goth's support came at a pivotal moment in his life.

Opening up about his time at a rehab center, the actor shared that during family week, he received a video call from Goth after an extended period of estrangement.

"She saved my f------ life," the Tax Collector star said while tearing up. "She was present for me at a time when I didn't deserve to have nobody in my life, especially her."

"She gave me hope when I was really running on fumes," he added.
