Singapore midfielder Hafiz Abu Sujad to join Thai club BBCU

Singapore national and Tampines Rovers midfielder, Hafiz Abu Sujad, will be plying his trade in Thailand this coming season.

Speaking exclusively to Yahoo Singapore via a phone conversation on Friday (6 January), Abdul Halim, Managing Director of Offside Sports, said that Hafiz, 26, will be playing for Big Bang Chula United (BBCU) Football Club and has agreed to a one-year contract.

Bangkok-based BBCU were relegated from the Thai Premier League at the end of last season and will be playing in the Thai League 2 this season.

According to Halim, who is Hafiz’s agent, the player will be going for a medical test and move to the Thai club by late February.

Yahoo Singapore understands that Hafiz’s monthly wage will increase slightly. Previous media reports said that Hafiz had the blessings of Tampines to leave the S.League for Thailand.

Hafiz, who has 34 caps for Singapore, is excited about his move to Bangkok.

“I am definitely happy with the move and being given a chance to take up the challenge as this is a chance for me to move out of my comfort zone,” he said via his agent.

Halim, who is currently based in Malaysia, said, “Money was not the motivation for Hafiz to move. The decision was based 100 per cent on the opportunity to advance his career.”
