Singapore video shows toddler in near-accident with two vehicles
A toddler narrowly avoided being hit by two vehicles after dashing across a road last Friday night.
That was the scene captured in a clip uploaded on streetdirectory.com’s Facebook page on Tuesday.
The one-minute video has since gone viral, garnering more than 5,000 shares as of Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at 8:51pm on 2 May, according to the video’s time stamp, and is believed by many viewers to have happened at Bedok North Road within a school zone.
In the video, the driver who recorded the incident shouts when he sees the young boy dash across the road. He slams the brakes then honks repeatedly.
The driver and his passenger also shout in horror when the child runs into the path of an oncoming taxi in the next lane.
The taxi also brakes hard and narrowly avoids a collision with the boy.
The child is seen turning to glance behind at an adult woman running after him before running ahead. The woman gives chase until she catches up with him on the other side of the road.
Many who saw the video chided the woman for being irresponsible and for not holding her child’s hand while crossing the road.
Others said that the child should be disciplined for not observing road safety and applauded the drivers for their alertness.
According to the traffic police, 61 children aged 12 and below were involved in road accidents in the first three months of 2014. This is an increase from 45 in the same period in 2013.
