Student concession passes previously applicable only to those studying in government-funded institutions will be made available to home-schooled students and students in private education institutions (PEIs).

TransitLink, a subsidiary of the Land Transport Authority, announced this on Monday (7 December) in a press release, stating that the move is in line with recommendations made by the Fare Review Mechanism Committee.

“Similar to their counterparts in the government-funded institutions, eligible Singapore Citizen students can now purchase Monthly Concession Passes pegged to their level of study. In addition, secondary-level students can enjoy concessionary trip fares if they choose not to purchase the Monthly Concession Passes," it said.

To apply for the passes, students from PEIs registered under the Council of Private Education must be aged 20 years and below and pursuing a GCE Normal, Ordinary, Advanced Level qualifications or an International Baccalaureate. This also applies to home-schooled students, who will need to provide documentation to prove that they are pursuing one of the qualifications.

Those pursuing a diploma or degree with minimum course duration of 24 months, and students below 20 years old who are taking special education courses from selected PEIs, are eligible to apply as well.

“TransitLink will engage relevant CPE-registered PEIs on the details of the concessions. Students can submit their applications when they are informed to do so by their PEIs. Home-schooled students can contact TransitLink directly via TransitLink Hotline,” it said.
