Football fans can catch live action from Uefa Champions League and Europa League on Singtel and StarHub platforms from this week, after the two telcos finally reached separate agreements with the rights owners to air the matches.

On Sunday (30 September), StarHub announced that it has secured broadcast rights for the two elite European club competitions rights holders beIN for the rest of the season. The matches will be shown live on its beIN Sports HD channel, with simultaneous matches screened on Hub Sports channels, at no additional cost.

“We are happy to reach an agreement to bring this season of the Uefa Champions League and Uefa Europa League to our customers,” said Johan Buse, chief of StarHub’s consumer business group.

A day later, Singtel TV also announced that it has reached an agreement with beIN Sports to screen the live matches. The matches are available as part of the World Sports+ add-on pack, as well as the Action Trio, Variety and Value packs.

Said Goh Seow Eng, Singtel’s managing director, Home, Consumer Singapore, “We thank our
customers for their patience as we engaged the rights owner for many months. Our efforts have paid
off with both top Uefa competitions secured.”

Ṇeither telcos had managed to seal the broadcast rights of the entire season even after both European tournaments had kicked off its group stages in mid-September, an unprecedented situation in Singapore. Singtel showed 16 matches in the first game week, while StarHub did not beam any.

The broadcasters reportedly could not agree on a price with new rights owners DAZN, before beIN stepped in to take over the rights and strike a deal with the duo.
