South Park characters replace stadium crowd during Denver Broncos NFL game
South Park teamed up with the Denver Broncos NFL team to help simulate a crowd in the stands which had been emptied during the coronvirus pandemic.
Almost 2,000 cardboard cutouts of characters from the long-running animated series were placed in the stadium during yesterday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Due to pandemic restrictions, only 5,700 fans were let into the stadium for the match, with all present adhering to social distancing regulations.
Cardboard mock-ups of South Park regulars Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny could be seen among the hoard of other faces.
The display comes ahead of an extra-long South Park episode airing in the US later this week, which focusses on the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
On Instagram, the official South Park account wrote: “All 1,800 of us had a great time at the @Broncos game today!
“South Park’s first-ever supersized episode, ‘The Pandemic Special’ premieres Wednesday at 8/7c on Comedy Central.”
Sports fixtures around the world have been playing to either empty or reduced-capacity stands.
