No police confirmation that teen's death was due to parkour
Press reports indicate that the 14-year-old girl from Spectra Secondary School who died from injuries following a fall is believed to have been a failed parkour attempt.
However, despite media reports, police are still classifying the case as unnatural death.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, the girl, identified as Secondary 2 student Shina Adrinana Hendricks, was walking to the toilet with her schoolmates when she decided to jump from the fourth floor to the third floor.
It is believed that she misjudged the distance and fell down four floors.
According to the World Freerunning Parkour Federation website, parkour is defined as “the act of moving from point A to point B using obstacles in your path”.
Lianhe Wanbao also reported that the girl was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by a teacher before an ambulance took her to the hospital.
She was first admitted to Khoo Teck Puat hospital in Yishun, and later transferred to KK Women’s and Children’s hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday (22 Oct) morning.
According to the Chinese daily, her father, James Hendricks, 52, said she was a jovial girl.
When contacted for comments, the school principal Krishnan Aravinthan said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our student.
"The school is providing support to the family as well as to the school community.”
A staff at the school said the school has made sure they "provided alot of support of students and staff."
It was also mentioned that classes would go on as usual.
The school did not confirm nor deny if there would be any vigil held.
