‘Squid Game 2’ Director and Stars Set to Tease Netflix Show at Italy’s Lucca Comics and Games

“Squid Game” creator, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk and the show’s protagonists Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-Jun will be attending Italy’s Lucca Comics and Games festival on Oct. 31 to tease the hit Netflix series’ second season.

The hotly anticipated second instalment of the Korean-language survival drama series is set to launch on Netflix by the end of the year.

The second season of “Squid Game” will feature Gi-hun making a critical decision, according to promotional materials. Played by Lee Jung-jae, who won an Emmy for lead actor in a drama series, Gi-hun abandons his plans to go to the U.S., after a mysterious phone call and embarks on a mission. The new season will also welcome other beloved characters from the first season, such as Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and the Recruiter (Gong Yoo). As well as new cast members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul and Park Gyu-young, a Netflix statement said.

Netflix did not specify whether they will be showing episodes or preview footage in Lucca of “Squid Game 2” for which a trailer was dropped in February.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, who was the first Asian to win an Emmy for outstanding directing in a drama series is back in saddle, resuming his role as director, writer and producer.

Lucca Comics – which will run Oct. 30-Nov. 3 – is a unique geek meet held within the medieval walls of the Tuscan town of Lucca,  surrounded by perfectly preserved 16th and 17th century ramparts, attended by more than 200,000 attendees each year. The upcoming edition will also feature appearances by Japan’s Tatsuya Nagamine, who has directed several Toei Animation productions including Fuji TV’s “One Piece” and “Dragon Ball Super: Broly.”
