Star Awards 2024: Jeremy Chan says wife Jesseca Liu woke up early in the morning to vote for him in Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes
Malaysian actor Zhang Yaodong confessed that he was persuaded to attend this year's Star Awards.
Celebrity power couple Jeremy Chan and Jesseca Liu won big at this year’s Star Awards. Liu received her All-Time Favourite Artiste award, while Chan won Best Actor (for his role on All That Glitters) and Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes.
Speaking to media backstage after his wins, Chan said his wife did something sweet for him that morning.
The 42-year-old recalled, “Normally I’d be voting for her, and she knows that. So this morning, I woke up a little later, and I thought she was doing yoga. I looked in the room, but she wasn’t there. Then I thought she might be making breakfast.
“I went downstairs and saw her sitting on the sofa. I thought she was meditating, so I went to see, and she was voting for me. So I don’t know what time she woke up, and she has been sitting there voting since.”
When asked about how they’d celebrate, Chan echoed what Liu had shared with the media previously.
He said, “We discussed it before and we wanted to celebrate regardless of whether I won. After all, she’s getting the All-Time Favourite Artiste award. We’ll go home and do the most simple thing, which is also the happiest.
“We’ll eat instant noodles, and maybe fry an egg to go with it. It’s simple and delicious.”
Friends convinced Zhang Yaodong to attend Star Awards
Fellow winner Zhang Yaodong revealed during the backstage interview with media that he was persuaded to attend the awards ceremony.
The 46-year-old Malaysian actor said, “I’ve not been back to this stage in a long time… I’m thankful that I have a group of friends who called me after I was nominated and had a long chat with me. They persuaded me to attend this year’s Star Awards. Actually, I’ve not attended for a few years already.”
Zhang added that when his friends indicated their intent to support him for the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award - the winners are determined by an online voting system - he told them to “use the time for themselves” instead.
His friend, and also a Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes winner, Shaun Chen, had been encouraging him too.
“He said, ‘You can’t always be like this lowkey. You need to appear occasionally,” said Zhang, who confessed to being more laidback.
The other winners for the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes are Romeo Tan, Marcus Chin, Jeff Goh, Pornsak, Desmond Tan, and Benjamin Tan.
Rounding up the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes winners are Xixi Lim, He Yingying, Chantalle Ng, Ya Hui, Carrie Wong, Chen Biyu, Tasha Low, Chen Ning, Yvonne Lim, and Hong Ling.
Both Pornsak and Yvonne Lim got their 10th win this year and will receive the All-Time Favourite Artiste award next year. Neither were present for the ceremony.
