"Star Wars" fan short "Jakku: First Wave" takes us behind enemy lines

Three Stormtroopers prepare to drop in "Jakku: First Wave"

What's it like to be a Stormtrooper? Thanks to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," we already know that the iconic footsoldiers can be people like us, and fan film "Jakku: First Wave" takes us deeper behind increasingly relatable enemy lines.

Benjamin Eck has worked behind the scenes on hit webshow "Good Mythical Morning" for the last three years, and here turns his hand to the world of "Star Wars."

The three minute reel features a trio of Stormtroopers readying for deployment on Jakku, the desert planet that provided the opening backdrop for December 2015 feature "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

And where, in the film, we saw Stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) defect from the First Order to join the Resistance, in "Jakku: First Wave," there's an extra insight into the varying but very human motivations of the short's three protagonists.

Appearing in the homage are Joseph Bearor ("Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Double Agent"), Aaron Goddard (Palm Beach IFF winner "A Song for Manzanar"), and Tyler Wolfe (Top Indie Film Awards winner "Extraction.")

Official "Star Wars" franchise entry "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is set for release the week of December 16, 2016.
