Storm destroys restaurants on Naples waterfront

Workers were clearing away debris on Tuesday (December 29) morning after tables, chairs and gazebos set up outside the restaurants that line the waterfront were severely damaged by the storm, while glass windows and doors were smashed.

Heavy rain and strong wind caused the powerful waves to sweep over the waterfront. Local authorities closed the road, Via Partenope, while a clean-up operation was underway.

The lockdown that kept Italians largely in their homes from Dec. 24-27 was eased on Monday (December 28), allowing people to move around freely within their towns but restaurants and bars remained closed, apart from for takeaway services.
