Strange things happening in Umno, says Muhyiddin after Hamidah’s sacking

Strange things have been happening in Umno lately, says party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in response to the sacking of the Gopeng division Wanita chief on Tuesday. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Muhyiddin said he was worried about the “few strange things” happening in Umno. “I am worried about a few strange things happening in Umno lately, which show the sense of responsibility, justice, and trust among certain leaders to be eroding.” The statement was issued in response to the sacking of Datuk Hamidah Osman by the Umno Supreme Council. Muhyiddin did not disclose who the “certain leaders” were but had a message for them. “To these people, I would like to remind them, remember, Umno is not a party belonging to any individual. “It is a party for all Malays. Do not hurt the Malays with your actions that are untrustworthy and irresponsible,” he said. The reason for Hamidah’s sacking is still unknown and was not done through the party’s disciplinary board. Earlier she denied being at the “Bicara Negara” event in Ipoh last May, where former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the speaker. She said she had explained the matter in her reply to the party leadership after she received a show-cause letter recently. “I am still blur as to why I was sacked. I also haven't received any official letter on the sacking until now. “I never heard from them (leadership) since. “I thought the normal party procedure was to allow me defend myself in front of the party disciplinary board but none of this took place," she told reporters in Ipoh today. Hamidah admitted she was one of the invited guests during the event held in Tower Regency but added that there were other Umno leaders too at the venue. “So why was I the only one getting the axe?” But she said she accepted her sacking with an open heart and had a message for party president and prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak: “Sir, please don't burn the country, if we burn, you burn with us also.” Hamidah, who had been with the party for 33 years, added that she felt democracy was dead in Umno. – November 27, 2015.
