Foodies living in the far east of Singapore are in luck as Pasir Ris is set to have its first hawker centre in November, featuring hawker foods on the ground floor and “hipster” foods on the upper level.

The double-storeyed Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre (PCHC) will house 770 seats and a total of 42 stalls, with 20 dedicated to traditional hawker fare, according to NTUC Foodfare in a media release on Wednesday (6 September).

The hawker centre will operate from 7am to 10:30pm daily and diners will be able to make payments via cash and cashless methods.

This will be the third hawker centre managed by NTUC Foodfare after Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre and Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre.

Besides innovative and modern dishes on the upper level, also named as the FAREGROUND @ Upper Deck, diners can look out for a host of events such as art markets, craft fairs and live music performances.

Similar to the house rule at Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre, diners at PCHC will also be expected to return their trays and crockery after use. The staff at the hawker centre will only be tasked to maintain the cleanliness of the tables and common area.

In an effort to promote healthy eating, hawkers at PCHC are required to feature at least one meal consisting of no more than 500 calories or given the “Healthier Choice” nod by the Health Promotion Board (HPB). Hawkers are also required to include “two budget meals” in their menu to “ensure that everyone can enjoy a satisfying meal” at the hawker centre.

Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs) who would like to apply for a stall can do so by registering between 11 and 22 September 2017 at Foodfare @ Downtown East, Pasir Ris Elias Community Club or Pasir Ris East Community Club.
