Pokemon Go has been out in the UK for half a year, and many users are looking beyond another Pidgey or Drowzee with the release of 80 new Generation Two Pokemon.

With the help of Reddit user __isitin__, who has decoded and released the data behind the game, we know the best attackers and defenders in the game. Unfortunately, this is just for the original Generation One Pokemon for now.

Unsurprisingly, legendary Pokemon such as Mewtwo, Mew, Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos are all among the strongest Pokemon. These haven't appeared in the game yet, with many anticipating that they are being saved for some form of special event.

Others that compare to the strength of these elusive monsters are Dragonite, Snorlax and Arcanine - all among the rarer Pokemon in the game so far.

What are the Pokemon with the highest CP?

According to the figures found in the data dump, Mewtwo, Dragonite and Mew have the highest CP cap in the game. CP stands for combat points, which dictate how strong a Pokemon is.

Of Pokemon that have been seen more frequently in the game so far, Snorlax, Arcanine and Lapras have the highest max CP.

Snorlax can get up to 3,113 CP when the trainer reaches a higher level, while an evolved Exeggutor can reach 2,955 CP. The lowest max CP cap belongs to Magikarp, with 263.

The best attackers and defenders in Pokemon GO

The data dump also included numbers on attack and defence scores - called BaseAttack and BaseDefense. These Base statistics are the same for each Pokemon species, then the Individual scores are random on each Pokemon (between 0 and 15). The total of both of these types affect the CP.

While it is currently unclear how exactly these numbers impact battling, they clearly represent an indication into each Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses.

The best attackers in Pokemon Go are Mewtwo, Dragonite and Moltres, according to the attack statistics released.

Those to have some of the best attack scores that are not legendary or very uncommon include Flareon, Exeggutor and Arcanine.

Three of  the top ten attackers are fire-type Pokemon, indicating that these are the ones to attack gyms with

When it comes to defence in the much-loved game, Articuno, Blastoise and Mew come top.

Fighting, rock and ground-type Pokemon generally do well in defence, with Poliwrath, Omastar and Marowak all appearing in the top 10 for defence.

The Pokemon with the highest HP

Chansey, Snorlax and Wigglytuff have the highest BaseStamina - relating to HP - in Pokemon Go. This means they can absorb a lot of hits before they are knocked out, but each - being normal-type Pokemon - would be vulnerable to the fighting type.

Chansey has a Base Stamina of 500, compared to just 20 for Diglett.

Surprisingly, none of the three highest HP Pokemon in the game are legendary, but Mewtwo does indeed make the top 10 list.

The Reddit user who is analysing the data added: "Most of these statistics are hidden from users in the app - it's only from a data dump of your Pokemon collection that these can be calculated.

"We're still trying to figure out how the attack and defense numbers actually affect the battle situation, but some more research needs to be done first."
