Taylor Swift's new merch allegedly has a bizarre effect on fans' skin: 'Hitting a new low'

Swifties, take note — Taylor Swift’s new merchandise line may have some side effects.

TikTok user Bobby Ernst, whose Evermore merch recently arrived, took to the platform to show fellow fans that his new shirt dyed his body green. He wasn’t too upset about it, though.

“Still love her,” he said in his caption. In the video, he shows off his green arms calmly.

“I don’t know how well you can see it. I’m green,” he said. “It’s all on my arms, chest and back.”

The video also went viral on Twitter, where it was revealed that Ernst did, in fact, wash the shirt before wearing it.

As of Feb. 23, it had been five days since the incident, and he was still green.

Commenters were shocked.

“This cannot be real,” a Twitter user wrote.

“UMG merch is hitting a new low,” another said, calling out Universal Music Group — Swift’s new record label.

Others took time to reference Swift’s new music in the comments.

“Took ‘how evergreen our group of friends’ literally,” one TikTok user said, referencing the song “Champagne Problems” from Evermore.

“She really meant it when she said now I’m covered in you,” another said, referencing the song “Ivy.”

“It dyed him key lime green,” a third wrote as a tribute to “Last Great American Dynasty.”

Other users chimed in to say that other Swift merch has dyed their skin different colors as well.

One said a blue Folklore sweatshirt left his friend with blue skin, and another said the same green shirt leaves her with Shrek-like skin even after five washes. A third had the same problem with a brown shirt, and so on.

“This happened to me with this shirt too. I’ve washed it probably 4 times now and it still turns me green every time I wear it. Still wearing it though,” a dedicated fan said on Twitter.

Getting a little leftover dye on your skin after wearing new clothes isn’t entirely unusual, especially if they’re mass-produced and supplied by a record label. Dark jeans do this all the time, too.

To get the dye off your skin, eHow suggests scrubbing your body with hand soap, warm water and an abrasion scrubbing pad. If it remains, give lye soap, baking soda and lemon juice a try.
