Tiket.com introduces mobile app feature for train booking

Ahead of the annual spike in train ticket bookings for the Idul Fitri holiday, online travel agent Tiket.com recently added a feature to its mobile app for online non-commuter line train reservations. The feature was created to allow users to easily book train tickets using smartphones with iOS, Android and Windows phone platforms.

This new feature complements existing mobile services for airplane, hotel and event bookings on tiket.com's smartphone app that can be downloaded for free from each platform’s application store.

Gaery Gunarsa, managing director of Tiket.com, explained that the train reservation feature would facilitate people in booking train seats, specifically ahead of Idul Fitri.

“A lot of people reserve train tickets months prior to the Idul Fitri holiday due too high demand,” Gaery said.

With Tiket.com’s mobile app, people who do not own a personal computer will be able to book train tickets directly from their smartphones without having to line up at offline ticket counters and risk the chance of losing out on a train seat to return to their hometowns for Idul Fitri.

“This mobile reservation system will also prevent unwanted ticket brokering,” Gaery added.

Other advantages that users will enjoy by booking train tickets via the mobile app is that ticket prices will be that of the official rates issued by PT. Kereta Api Indonesia, complete with a reservation code and seat number that can be exchanged with a physical ticket at the train station. Users can also use the ticket installment feature to pay for tickets in installments.

Various payment options are available to cater to users with and without credit cards. The service will also accept payments from six major banks in Indonesia.

“This year, we are targeting an increase train ticket booking for the Idul Fitri holiday through our system by to 150 percent,” Gaery said.
