Tinasha’s family lodges formal complaint against Assunta Hospital

The family of 14-year-old Tinasha Ganesan Rao has lodged a complaint against Assunta Hospital with the Health Ministry’s Private Practice Control Unit over her death.

This followed a meeting with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam in Putrajaya yesterday.

Tinasha died at 11.40am at the intensive care unit at Assunta Hospital last Friday, after initially being admitted on November 16. Her family has blamed Tinasha's death on Assunta Hospital, claiming the hospital was negligent in treating her.

Tinasha's uncle, Ramesh Inthirarasa, told The Malaysian Insider that Subramaniam had advised them to file a formal complaint.

"After filing a complaint with the Private Practice Control Unit, we had a two-hour long meeting with the director. He assured us that a thorough probe would be carried out into Tinasha"s case," he said today.

He said the family had also filed a complaint with the Malaysian Medical Association over Tinasha's case. He said they would be meeting with the Malaysian Medical Council today to provide details of the case.

Tinasha was admitted to Assunta Hospital on the night of November 16 with a fever. Her parents claimed that her condition deteriorated within an eight-hour period which culminated in their daughter being declared brain dead.

Assunta Hospital chief executive officer Peter Leong had said that all procedures were followed in the treatment of Tinasha. But the aggrieved family insisted that the hospital was negligent in treating Tinasha.

Tinasha's family has lodged two police reports, one over her death and the other over the hospital's refusal to give them a copy of Tinasha's medical report. The hospital had allegedly withheld the report because her family had approached the media. – November 27, 2014.
