New in town: Charmante Artisan Bakery – Yummy homemade tarts for takeaway at Bukit Timah condominium

Attention, residents of Southaven II condominium! Have you spotted a tiny hole-in-the-wall bakery pop up recently? It actually houses Charmante Artisan Bakery, which officially opened its doors to the public on 30 September 2022.

This Muslim-owned hidden bakery nestled within the condominium served freshly-baked homemade tarts from their tiny kitchen daily. It’s started by 26-year-old Abdillah Afifi, who was juggling a few part time jobs while starting his home-based business of making tarts since September 2020.

He would concentrate on his tart-making business at home from Fridays to Sundays, just to build his brand from scratch— finally his efforts have paid off!

Everything from the fillings to the actual tart dough is done in-house with the help of his two friends, Siti Nuraini and Iffah Zahirah.

I had the pleasure of watching Siti place a layer of hazelnut feuilletine (which is a layer of thin and crispy crepes flavoured with hazelnut) into the tart shells, before she poured the luscious chocolate ganache filling over it.

Just next door, Iffah was busy piping vanilla cream into the tart shells before meticulously placing the raspberries and blueberries on top of them. “We didn’t expect the tarts to be flying off the shelves on the first day of opening!” Afifi said.

Even before the tarts were ready to be consumed, I was already drooling from the appealing look of those lovely round treats.

Currently their bakery offers four different kinds of flavours during their soft opening phase. Let me show you what is available at their pickup store.

For those who want something light and refreshing, you can order the Mix Berries (S$10 for 8cm, S$42.50 for 16cm). It has vanilla cream infused with vanilla pods, topped with a mix of fresh blueberries and raspberries, and dusted lightly with a layer of sugar powder.

The Chocolate (S$9.50 for 8cm, S$38 for 16cm) (which I saw Siti making earlier) will surely satisfy chocolate lovers, with an additional mini ball of hazelnut feuilletine on top to finish things off.

They also have Salted Caramel (S$9.50 for 8cm), which is my all-time favourite flavour.

And lastly, the Lemon Meringue (S$9.50 for 8cm, S$38 for 16cm) will give your taste buds an acidic punch.

In the near future, Charmante Artisan Bakery will be launching new flavours for their tarts such as pistachio raspberry, lime, hazelnut, as well as seasonal ones.

In addition, cakes such as strawberry shortcake, mango shortcake and even other sweet treats like macaroons and madeleines will be offered on their menu, once things have settled down.
