‘Train To Busan’ Director Yeon Sang-ho And Appian Way Team On Action-Horror Pic ’35th Street’ At TriStar

EXCLUSIVE: Train To Busan director Yeon Sang-ho has found his first major studio pic as he is set to direct and write TriStar Pictures’ 35th Street, along with writer Ryu Yong-jae. The pic will be produced by Appian Way and WOW POINT. The project is in development and marks the director’s first English-language project. While plot details are being kept under wraps, it’s being described as an action/horror film.

One of Korea’s most prolific multi-platform storytellers, Yeon rose to global prominence in 2016 after releasing his first live-action $8 million zombie thriller Train To Busan which grossed over $98 million worldwide. The film put him on the map, becoming a classic rewatch and led to a sequel in 2020.

Peninsula, the sequel to Train To Busan was an official selection of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival which was released in July in limited territories during the pandemic, grossing $45M. Both directed by Director Yeon, TV series Hellbound and the film Jung-E were both released via Netflix, and each hit #1 globally on the platform.

WOW POINT, based in Seoul, is a global content production company, actively producing original local content in Korea, the United States, and Japan. Recent projects include the Netflix series The Bequeathed, which garnered global attention as a Korean-style mystery thriller, and the Netflix series Parasyte: The Grey, an adaptation of the legendary Japanese manga ‘Parasyte,’ which hit #1 in 45 countries upon its launch.
