Train service between Yishun and Bishan disrupted due to power fault

An early morning power fault on the North South Line disrupted train services between Yishun and Bishan on Wednesday. Train service resumed at 8.11am.

The delay began at 5.54am, according to SMRT’s Twitter account. SMRT also said free bus services were available from Yishun and Marina South Pier.

SMRT also advised passengers traveling in the direction of Orchard and Marina South Pier to travel via Jurong East station.

At 6.40am, media reports said fire engines were seen outside Ang Mo Kio MRT.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a power breaker located at Ang Mo Kio MRT station was damaged. The exact cause of the incident is under investigation.

Large crowds were seen at Bishan MRT station and at the bus stop opposite the station. Twiter users also sent in photos of crowds and long lines of commuters at Yishun MRT.

SMRT activated free bus boarding and free shuttle service between Yishun and Marina South Pier stations, there was also an additional free shuttle bus service between Yishun and Bishan stations to cater to the peak south-bound demand.

Full train service resumed in both directions at 8.10am. As at 9am, about 50 trains were running at frequency of two to three minutes.
