Singapore-based transport app Ryde is the latest to offer a third-party taxi booking service.

The booking service will be available next week on Ryde’s app after it was formally awarded a Third Party Taxi Booking Certificate by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Thursday (25 May).

Ryde has also signed a partnership with taxi operator ComfortDelGro. In a statement on 25 May, Ryde said that the company “will boast a fleet size of over 45,000 vehicles, comprising 30,000 privately-owned vehicles and about 16,000 ComfortDelGro taxis, making up about 60 per cent of the total taxi fleet in Singapore”.

Users will be able to book both flat fare and metered trips, and taxi bookings will be routed directly to ComfortDelgro. “The flat fare option computes a fixed fare taking into account distance travelled and existing surcharges,” said Ryde.

New in-app features will be rolled out in the coming weeks, including an option for electronic cashless payments.

Launched in 2014, the carpooling app says it has 100,000 users. Terence Zou, CEO and Founder of Ryde said, “We are immensely excited to share our platform with the largest taxi operator in Singapore. With this partnership, RYDE will be able to improve user experience when users cannot find a suitable carpooling option.”
