Trio of Bears Climb Down After Spending the Night in Tree in Denver Suburb
A family in a Denver suburb captured video of a trio of adorable brown bears slowly climbing down from a tree in their front yard on the morning of Tuesday, September 1, after the bears spent the night there.
Tomiko Herder and John Batchelor and their five-year-old twins, Braxton and Bianca, observed the bears as they climbed down a tree outside their home in Castle Pines, Colorado.
Speaking to Storyful, Herder said her partner took out the trash that morning only to have the neighbors point up to indicate the visitors. “Lo and behold, there were three bears, a momma and her two cubs, sleeping in the tree in front of our house,” Herder said.
After being told about the bears, they phoned Colorado Parks and Wildlife, who put them in touch with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office.
Herder said the sheriff’s office told her the bears would “eventually come down, but only if they don’t feel threatened.” Around 10 am, garbage trucks came by and woke the bears up. After 30 minutes passed, they left the area, Herder said.
“Thank goodness. No tranquilizers needed,” Herder said. “As the bears started to wake up, we grabbed the kids and watched in awe and delight. I told the twins that we couldn’t go to the zoo, so the zoo came to us.” Credit: Tomiko Herder via Storyful
