Trump-Kim summit: Visitors to Sentosa via cable cars may encounter bag checks on 12-13 June
Visitors to Sentosa who are entering the island via cable cars can expect to encounter bag checks or be diverted from existing gantry lanes on the Sentosa’s Gateway from Tuesday to Wednesday (12-13 June) as part of enhanced security measures for the upcoming Trump-Kim summit.
But it is business as usual at Sentosa from Sunday to Tuesday, said a joint media statement issued by the Sentosa Development Corporation and the Singapore Police Force on Friday.
“The Police seek the understanding and cooperation of the public as these measures are necessary to ensuring the security of the summit,” it added.
The statement added that the island will remain accessible to all through “multiple modes of access” from 10 to 14 June, with the exception of the compound within Capella Singapore, where the summit will take place on 12 June.
On Wednesday, the summit was declared an “Enhanced Security Special Event” by the Minister for Home Affairs under the Public Order Act.
The authorities correspondingly announced that areas including Sentosa and parts of Tanglin – home to the US embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Shangri-La Hotel – have been gazetted as “Enhanced Security Special Event Areas” during the summit.
Security checks and screenings on persons, vehicles, and vessels entering and around these event areas will be conducted by the police.
Additional security checks and screenings will also be carried out within “Special Zones” in these areas and the police will be able to refuse any person or vehicle entry into these zones or remove them from within.
