Tunisian presidential contenders cast their ballots

The young democracy's economic ills have dominated this election, with long queues forming outside some polling stations.

Tunisia threw off autocratic rule only eight years ago in a revolution that inspired the "Arab Spring" revolts across the Middle East and North Africa.

But unlike its regional neighbors, only Tunisia has seen a fully peaceful transition to democracy.

A perceived decline in living standards since the 2011 uprising, with higher unemployment and inflation, has frustrated many voters and turnout for local elections last year was only 34%.
