Twitter to curate top tweets with official food account

@TwitterFood

Twitter has launched its own food account.

Given the volume of food-related Twitter chatter -- be it from chefs, critics, restaurateurs and food lovers -- the micro-blogging site has announced plans to officially join the conversation with its own official @TwitterFood account.

"Welcome to @TwitterFood, where we'll share delicious Tweets and the best conversations from top foodies on Twitter," reads the first post.

Judging by the feeds that @TwitterFood follows, Tweeps can expect to see retweets and shares from predominantly American players.

Celebrity chef Mario Batali boasts the honor of being the account’s first follow after the official Twitter account, followed by Anthony Bourdain and Tyler Florence.

The account also follows most major food publications and sites including Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Saveur as well as Zagat, Eater and Epicurious.

Within a day of launch, @TwitterFood has gained more than 6,000 followers.
