Two men arrested for allegedly robbing taxi driver

Two men have been arrested for allegedly robbing a 73-year old taxi driver last Friday night (11 May).

In a press statement on Wednesday (16 May), the police said that the incident took place before 10pm at an open-air carpark at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.

Both suspects, aged 20 and 21, were picked up by the taxi driver along Tanglin Halt Road at about 9.20pm. Upon reaching the destination, the duo restrained the driver and robbed him of about $50 in cash.

The 21-year old was arrested at 4.45pm on 15 May along Holland Drive. His accomplice was arrested the following day at about 3pm near Ang Mo Kio Avenue 2.

The two suspects are expected to be charged with robbery with common intention at the State Courts on 17 May. If convicted, they each face jail terms of between three and 14 years and no less than 12 strokes of the cane.
