The boy who died in a freak accident on Monday (24 April) at Geylang Methodist Secondary School has been revealed to be the brother of Singapore celebrity Sarah Aqilah.

The singer said on her Instagram account on the day of the accident that the victim was her brother, Muhammad Hambali Bin Sumathi, who died after a goal post fell on him. According to media reports, he was playing football with his friends at the time.

In the post, Sarah, who was crowned winner of Suria’s singing competition Anugerah in 2009, called out to her fans to pray for her late brother, adding that the family will be claiming the body on Tuesday morning (25 April). She also said family and friends could pay their respects at Blk 410 Eunos Road 5.

On the day of the accident, the Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted at 9:35am. Hambali was unconscious and suffered from head injuries when he was conveyed to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sarah also posted another photo on Instagram showing the family’s last outing together at Universal Studios Singapore. She wrote, “It happened too soon.. This was our last outing together. I’m blessed to have met u before u go. The least i could do as a big sister was to provide for you in ways I did. We were supposed to go again in June [because] we have the season pass. But now, it is only memories left of you. I had planned for you to move in with me together with Ayah but Allah wanted you there earlier than we had expected.”

She continued, “Many didn’t know about you because we don’t live together and I didn’t get the chance to introduce you to my friends too. It is quite sad to have introduced you this way but hey, Allah had it all planned out for you my dear. Muhammad Hambali Bin Sumathi.”
