Italian Rescuers Scour Rubble Overnight After Deadly Earthquakes

Rescuers continued to scour the rubble in central Italy in the early hours of Thursday, August 25, after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake and multiple aftershocks in central Italy on Wednesday caused at least 247 deaths. According to Italy’s Civil Protection Department, 190 people died in Rieti and 57 died in Ascoli Piceno.

Houses in the small towns in the Umbria, Lazio and Le Marche regions collapsed during the quake, trapping many people in the debris. This video shows rescuers on Thursday morning racing against time to find potential survivors.
