Thousands of Bibliophiles Overwhelm Harper Collins Book Sale in Faridabad

When book publisher Harper Collins advertised a book sale at its Faridabad warehouse, in northern India’s Haryana state, for June 24 and 25, it did not expect the response of more than 3,600 people. Thousands showed up, drawn by the offer of books as cheap as 25 rupees ($0.37), causing massive lines lasting hours.

The oppressive heat reportedly caused at least two people to faint, while police and warehouse workers tried to control the eager, exhausted customers. According to India’s News 18, hundreds had arrived at the gates to the warehouse even before it opened. The second day of the sale was cancelled due to the overwhelming response.
