Thousands March in Melbourne for Workers' Rights

Thousands marched in Melbourne on Wednesday, March 4, protesting the government’s workplace relations agenda.
Protesters marched through downtown Melbourne carrying banners and chanting slogans such as “When the minimum wage is under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back.”

Protests were organised in capital cities across the country by the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) and the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).

ACTU secretary David Oliver told the ABC the protests aimed to send a message to the Abbott Government. “Today the union movement teamed up with the community to get a very loud and clear message to this Government that we will not stand by and let Tony Abbott take our country in the wrong direction,” Oliver said.
