Vehicles Set on Fire Amid Baltimore Unrest

People set fire to vehicles and stores in downtown Baltimore on April 27 after a protest turned violent. Police in riot gear clashed with a group of what appeared to be teenagers near Mondawmin Mall before spilling into the area neighborhoods. Teenagers were not the only ones involved in the unrest that spilled into the neighborhoods.

This footage shows firefighters responding to a vehicle set on fire.

Police were on scene after fliers circulated calling for a potentially violent protest. The mall and most area businesses closed ahead of the scheduled event.

Police reported seven officers were injured, including one who was unconscious. Police said they would use tear gas and pepper balls to try to control the unrest.

The unrest unfolded hours after Freddie Gray’s funeral and in the same neighborhood. Gray’s death from injuries he allegedly sustained while in police custody is under investigation. There have been protests since Gray’s death, and the unrest came two days after confrontations between police and protesters broke out outside Orioles Park at Camden Yards during what had been otherwise peaceful demonstration.
