“The View” censors Jessica Lange's candid description of her new character
EW has learned the word the Oscar-winning icon used, which made the cohosts chuckle as the audio cut during the live broadcast.
Jessica Lange gave the ladies of The View a little thrill when she dropped a particularly candid description of her new Great Lillian Hall character during Thursday's live broadcast.
After cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin asked about Lange's performance in the upcoming HBO drama, which she stars in with her longtime friend and collaborator Kathy Bates, the show cut the acting legend's audio as she explained the relationship between the film's focal characters.
"It's a little bit [like] the Thelma Ritter role," Lange said, comparing Bates' part to the work of Ritter, whom many consider one of the greatest supporting actresses in Hollywood history.
"She's tough-talking," Lange continued, though her next word was censored. Lange appeared to ask the cohosts a question as moderator Whoopi Goldberg turned her head toward producer Brian Teta and smiled.

Lange elaborated on the characters' dynamic in The Great Lillian Hall, which follows an acclaimed Broadway actress who struggles with memory loss as she mounts a show.
"[Kathy plays] somebody who knows my character, Lillian Hall, inside out, and they care for her," Lange said. "They have a great friendship. Difficult at times, but a really great friendship. It's wonderful."
She continued, "Kathy and I have known each other for going on 30 years. We've worked together over time, and I love her. We're great old friends, so it makes it easy."

EW has reached out to a representative for The View for comment.
The View has censored a number of celebrities for using profanity on the live show recently, including Jennifer Lopez and Robert De Niro, the latter of whom went on a tirade against Donald Trump that included, as a representative for De Niro told EW at the time, the star saying "''f---' a few times."
Panelist Sunny Hostin recently told EW in an interview for her new book, Summer on Highland Beach, that her cohost Joy Behar also made the show's standards department "unhappy" when she read a particularly sensual passage from the novel out loud on the May 9 broadcast.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
