Wang Ziyi wins Best Supporting Actor award

25 Jun – Chinese actor Wang Ziyi has recently been honoured with the Best Supporting Male accolade at the China Movie Channel Media Awards, held at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival.

As reported on Singpao Daily, the actor, who won the award for his role in writer-turned-director Quan Ling's directorial debut, "Forgetting to Know You", was ecstatic because not only did he win his very first award at the event, but he was also happy that he is able to receive it from Jia Zhangke, who also served as the movie producer.

Expressing his gratitude for the honour he received, Wang thanked the film director and mentor for the many opportunities that have been given to him, and said that he will think of it as a motivation to continue his hard work and live up to everyone's expectation.

Aside from Wang, the movie's lead actress, Tao Hong also won the Best Actress award for her role as a married woman who is discontented with her mundane life.

The China Movie Channel Media Awards were voted by a jury group made up of the media, cinema representatives and film critics.

The Jia Zhangke-produced "Forgetting to Know You" tells the story of married couple Xuesong (Tao Hong) and Cai (Guo Xiaodong), who get bored with their married life but were unable to split due to their shared responsibilities toward their young daughter.

Seeking happiness in other ways, Xuesong began flirting with a young cab driver Wu (Wang Ziyi) while Cai is obsessed in trying to prove he is a better businessman than his wife's ex-boyfriend.
