Festival of Lights @ Project Oasis in Little India

THEATRE
Cursed to sail the seas until he finds his true love, the doomed ghostly sailor can only come ashore once in seven years. Staged in Singapore for the first time, this adaptation of Richard Wagner’s 19th century opera “The Flying Dutchman” will be set in Southeast Asia, with details inspired by Chinese opera, wayang kulit (Indonesian-style shadow puppetry) and other regional elements.

Remember Rihanna’s canary yellow Met ball gown in 2015? It was the work of none other than Chinese couturier Guo Pei; you’ll get to see her lavish gowns on the runway as part of the Singapore Fashion Week. The star-studded fashion line-up also includes London-based label Self Portrait, New York-based designer Naeem Khan, as well as local fashion labels Ong Shunmugam, Max Tan and Aijek.

Long before the advent of vampires that glitter in the sun, Bram Stoker’s gothic tale of Dracula was (and continues to be) one of the most influential blood-drinking figures in popular imagination. Catch the theatrical adaptation of this horror story just in time for Halloween; it stars Keith-Lee Castle as the titular vampire and Singapore musician-actress Narelle Kheng (she of The Sam Willows fame) as Lucy.

Perspectives Film Festival
Skip the usual box office fare and settle in for films that will perplex, bemuse and have you talking about them long after you’ve seen them on the screen. Seven films themed around the Surrealist art movement have been selected for this film festival. Singapore Biennale 2016
How do we see the world and ourselves in relation to our shared history and multiculturalism? Passages by Singapore Dance Theatre
