SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in Singapore in the past week (17-23 August):

Lee Kok Choy in 4th term as SSA president

Incumbent Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) president Lee Kok Choy will the association for a fourth and final term following the association’s virtual annual general meeting on Thursday (20 August).

Lee’s 10-person team saw seven returning unopposed, with three new faces joining the SSA executive committee: Derrick Lim (treasurer), Wendy Lim (vice-president for diving) and Lee Thin Cheong (assistant secretary-general for water polo).

Stepping down from their positions were former treasurer Tan Yew Khuan, vice-president for diving William Lee, and assistant secretary-general for water polo Ang Ban Leong.

A total of 26 voting members and 5 associate members attended the virtual AGM.

500 pairs of shoes for frontline medical workers

#SGOutrunCovid, a nationwide initiative organised by Co-organization in partnership with New Balance as part of the GetActive!Singapore 2020 campaign, clocked 168,326 kilometres for its virtual race, which ran for 55 days until 8 August. A total of 5,083 participants took part in this run.

New Balance had pledged to donate 50 pairs of shoes to local frontline medical workers for every 10,000km clocked for the initiative’s original target of 70,000km. The footwear brand has since raised the number of shoes donated from 350 pairs to 500 pairs.

A shoe donation ceremony at Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 14 August was graced by Eric Chua, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Social and Family Development.
