SINGAPORE — Here is a round-up of sports events and developments in Singapore in the past week (31 August - 6 September):

All slots for OCBC Cycle Virtual Ride taken up

All 4,700 slots for the first OCBC Cycle Virtual Ride across its three categories have been fully taken up as of 2 September, one month before the organisers planned to close registration.

The organisers said in a media release that the new format – in place of the cancelled OCBC Cycle 2020 – proved a hit, with participants citing the convenience and flexibility of completing the event with family and friends over multiple rides – and on their preferred routes – as the main draw.

Close to 70 per cent of those signing up are first-time participants as compared to past editions of OCBC Cycle, where first-time participants typically made up about 40 per cent.

TeamSGP Athletics to contest in SA election

Lawyer Edmond Pereira – who is president of Flash Athletics Club – will lead a team into the Singapore Athletics (SA) election for office bearers on 25 September.

TeamSGP Athletics has nine members, including former national swim star Ang Peng Siong, national men’s 100m record holder U.K. Shyam and Tampines Rovers chairman Desmond Ong.

The team will be releasing details of its manifesto and plans for the sport on 10 September.

Last Thursday (3 September), a team led by Gojek general manager Lien Choong Luen unveiled its manifesto to contest in the SA election. Current SA president Tang Weng Fei has decided not to contest for re-election.

The three winners – which come from India, Australia and Qatar – will get opportunities to launch their project pilots with SportSG.
