The Dueling Shield is a Thrusting Shield found in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. This unique type of shield allows you to defend yourself from enemy attacks while also being able to dish out your own damage using the shield as a weapon. This makes for a fun, defensive playstyle that doesn’t force you to give up much in the way of offensive capabilities.

Here’s what you need to know about the Dueling Shield and where to find it.

Dueling Shield stats and features

The Dueling Shield has a weight of 9.0 and requires the following stats to wield:

  • STR - 15

  • DEX - 14

The weapon comes equipped with Ash of War: Shield Strike. This Ash of War allows you to attack with the shield up to three times in succession, dealing some reasonably decent damage depending on your stats.

The Dueling Shield can be upgraded to +25 with standard Smithing Stones.

Dueling Shield item description

The Dueling Shield’s item description reads:

“A thrusting shield, or combined weapon and shield. Enables the wielder to attack and guard simultaneously.

An armament once used in ritual combat performed to honor the Erdtree—a custom that had somehow remained within the realm of shadow.”

Where to find the Dueling Shield

You can find the Dueling Shield in Shadow Keep, the third legacy dungeon of Shadow of the Erdtree, located in the northern section of Scadu Altus. You’ll have to make your way through the dungeon for a while before you can access the shield, so push through the main path until you reach the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace.

From the Site of Grace, head forward, then go left around the structure ahead of you until you’re behind it, then take the stairs up to the left. Take an immediate left and follow this path through the bookcases until an opening on your right presents some new stairs. Take these stairs and continue following the subsequent staircases up until you reach an area with a tall, red enemy known as a Fire Knight, who will be standing looking out over the room.

Defeat the Fire Knight, then look left of where it was initially standing. There’s a walkway here that allows you to jump over to a platform containing the Dueling Shield. Safely make the jump and the shield is all yours.
