Woman charged for allegedly letting boyfriend sexually abuse daughter in shower
A woman who allegedly allowed her lover to shower with her 13-year-old daughter has been charged with allowing the girl to be sexually abused by the man.
On Wednesday (7 November), the 39-year-old mother, who cannot be named to protect her daughter’s identity, was charged under the Children and Young Persons Act.
According to court documents, sometime between January and June 2016, the mother knowingly permitted a child under her custody to be ill-treated by allowing the man to shower with the child.
Yahoo News Singapore reported in February that the 47-year-old man, the mother’s boyfriend, was sentenced to 34 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to four counts of raping a victim below the age of 14.
His offences, which include molest, occurred from 2010 to 2016.
The man and the girl’s mother, a divorcee, had an extra-marital affair in 2006. The man was living with wife and son then.
In 2010, the man stopped working. The girl’s mother would drop her daughter off at the man’s flat during the school holidays from 2010 to 2014. From 2010, the man then began molesting the girl who was aged between seven and eight at the time.
In 2014, the mother and daughter moved in with the man’s family. This was when the sexual assaults escalated.
Although the girl told her mother about the assaults, she eventually stopped as the latter would simply get angry with her but not intervene.
The girl was conditioned to the point that she undressed herself without being told to do so at times. She would also comply out of fear of angering the man.
When she was 13, the girl sought help from the man’s wife, who referred her to a social worker. The social worker brought the girl to the police to lodge a report on 29 June 2016.
Her mother will be back in court on 27 November. She faces a jail term of not more than four years and/or a fine of 4,000 if convicted.
