Two men have been charged in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman outside Vaughan Mills mall on Tuesday, York police say.

Courtney Ashton Brooks, 23, is facing one count of first-degree murder, police said in a news release Wednesday morning. Donte Morris Taylor, 22, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Both men are from Brampton.

Police also identified the victim as Alisseaha Golar-Kotlar, from Hamilton.

"The relationship between the two accused and the victim has not yet been confirmed, but are believed to be known to each other," the release said.

"Investigators believe the incident is targeted and there is no threat to public safety," it said.

The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the busy mall, located near Highway 400 and Rutherford Road.

Responding officers found Golar-Kotlar suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to hospital, where she died.

Police initially said her vehicle was stolen from the parking lot after the shooting. But speaking to reporters Wednesday, Const. Kevin Nebrija said investigators have not confirmed that.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or may have relevant information or dashcam video is asked to contact York police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
