Yangon Galacticos disqualified from SEA DPC qualifier after player found guilty of scripting
Epulze did not specify what form of scripting Ksh used and in what match
Myanmar-based Dota 2 team Yangon Galacticos have been disqualified from the Closed Qualifier of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season's Southeast Asian regional league, after one of their players was found guilty of scripting during official matches.
Epulze, the organisers of the Southeast Asian regional league for the 2023 DPC season, announced Yangon Galacticos' disqualification in a statement on its Facebook page.
The organiser said that the team's carry player, Kaung Sett "Ksh" Hein, was found guilty of scripting and has received a lifetime ban from competing in Epulze events.
Scripting is a form of cheating in Dota 2 and many other competitive video games, referring to the simplification or automation of otherwise complex actions.
Common examples of scripting in Dota 2 include ones that let a player easily control micro-intensive heroes with just one button press instead of several, or others that automatically activate items like Black King Bar or abilities like Morph when targeted by enemies.
Epulze did not specify what form of scripting Ksh used and in what match.
In addition, the organiser also banned the other Yangon Galacticos players "until further notice, pending a more extensive investigation".
Yangon Galacticos countered Epulze's accusations by alleging in a statement that the organiser had no solid evidence for the ban and that they were not given prior notice.
"[The scripting allegation] is something we have no knowledge of. We wanted to investigate if there is anything that is causing the misunderstanding. All of our players from Yangon Galacticos have always been playing with our own morality and dignity. Additionally, Ksh is the youngest players who have achieved 10K MMR in the whole SEA region. He is our hope, our country's rising star. We will fight for him. We will fight this nonsense," said Yangon Galacticos.
Prior to Yangon Galacticos' disqualification, the team was set to play in the lower bracket finals of the Southeast Asian regional league's Closed Qualifier.
They would have qualified for Division II in the 2023 DPC season if they won that match.
As a result of the disqualification, the Division II spot was instead taken by Drink Water, who defeated Lilgun in the lower bracket semifinals then won the lower bracket finals by default.
There have been multiple instances of players receiving bans from DPC organisers for violating the circuit's rules this month.
Earlier this week, PGL banned 10 Ukrainian and Russian players for account sharing and impersonating members of other teams during tournament games. Peruvian player Gianluca "Migi" Mendoza was also banned due to match-fixing and was removed from his team, Dreamers Esports.
Dota 2 developer Valve Software and the organisers of the different DPC leagues have regularly handed out permanent bans on players and teams that were caught participating in illegal activity in official matches — such as account sharing and match-fixing, among other offenses — before the start of every DPC season.
The 2023 DPC season is set to begin in early January 2023, starting with Division I competition in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China, Southeast Asia, North America, and South America. Division II competition will begin in late January and early February, now no longer running alongside Division I for the new season.
